As young men transition into adulthood, it is of the utmost importance that their faith grows with them. Missions discipleship prepares teenage boys to face the world with confidence in Jesus Christ and a heart on fire for the gospel. Experiences in missions discipleship build boys’ awareness that while God wants every person to know of His love and to have a relationship with Him through Christ, there are still people in the world who know nothing of God’s love. With this knowledge, boys progress from a focus on self to a focus on others. A foundation of missions is set for a lifetime.
How to Start a Challengers Group:
- Begin with prayer: Make prayer a part of each step in starting and leading a new group.
- Download starter pack: Download a sample of the Missions Journey: Students curriculum.
- Contact KentuckyWMU: Contact the KentuckyWMU Students Missions Strategist to learn more about updates, resources, and leadership training for Children in Action leaders and volunteers. Attend leadership development events hosted by KentuckyWMU.
- Meet With Pastor & Student Minister: Student leaders should meet with the pastor and youth minister to discuss the purpose, structure, and goals of the Acteens group, so everyone is on the same page.
- Register WMU group: Select the link below to register your new WMU group with the state office.
- Identify leaders: Identify a group leader and others willing to lead, consider enlisting teenagers to help as student leaders. Provide leadership development through Kentucky WMU's leadership training events.
- Select & Order materials: Use WMU resources like the Missions Journey: Students to help you get started.
- Promote: Invite students to attend through personal contacts, email, social media, and other communication channels at your church.
